Courtyard Garden Refresh — Turf, Pebbles & Planting
An overgrown courtyard bed around an established tree cleared and re-laid as a neat square of natural turf, edged in white pebbles and flowers, with the timber sleeper path kept.

Before
The brief
The bed beside the house had grown wild: weeds and self-sown growth had taken over the soil around the tree, and the timber sleeper path running past it had all but disappeared into the mess.
What we did
- Cleared the overgrowth and weeds back to bare soil
- Prepared and levelled the ground around the existing tree
- Laid natural turf as a clean square under the tree
- Bordered the lawn with a white-pebble strip
- Planted marigolds, lavender and mixed flowering plants along the edges
- Retained the timber sleeper path and the established tree
How we approached it
The tree stayed where it was and the design was built around it. Once the bed was cleared and levelled, the turf was cut to a crisp square so the pebble border and planting could frame it, and the existing sleeper path was tidied rather than replaced.
The result
A small courtyard that reads as one finished garden: fresh lawn under the tree, a bright pebble edge, colour along the borders and a clear path through it.
